It was in 1756 when Salzburg's most famous son, the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, was born at "Hagenauer Haus" in Getreidegasse 9. Nowadays, the house of his birth is home to one of the most frequented museums in Austria.

This museum and several other cultural monuments make Getreidegasse one of the most beautiful shopping streets in the world. Hike up one of the many hills surrounding the city, e.g. Mönchsberg hill, to enjoy an unparalleled panorama of the entire old town.
